Tracking ELD Exempt Vehicles via the Highway Mobile App

When a Verified ELD Exempt vehicle is assigned to a Load Lock+ load, you can now track that load via the Highway for Carriers mobile app.

Assigning a Verified ELD Exempt Vehicle

If you assign a Verified ELD Exempt vehicle in Load Details in the Highway Broker Portal, Highway will prompt the Carrier to confirm the assigned vehicle and assign a driver to the load. If no vehicle is assigned and a Carrier has a Verified ELD Exempt vehicle on their account, we will also prompt them to assign a vehicle and driver 5 hours prior to the start of the pick up window. At that time, we will only show them Verified ELD Exempt vehicles to choose from.

Tracking with the Mobile App

Once a carrier has assigned a driver to the load, we will begin tracking automatically 3 hours before the start of the pick up window as long as the Highway for Carriers app is open in the foreground or background - and the user is “Always” sharing their location - for the duration of the load. These Mobile App pings will appear on the map in the Broker Portal just like ELD tracked vehicles, but we will be noting the source as “Mobile”.

Helping your Carrier troubleshoot

Here are some helpful tips for you to pass on to your Carrier if they are having trouble setting up tracking:

  • Verifying ELD Exempt Status: If the Carrier you have on a load has provided you the VIN of an ELD Exempt vehicle and it is not Verified by Highway yet, please ask the Carrier to submit a request for verification via their Equipment page or Vehicle Assignment flow in My Loads.

  • Driver Assignment: Carriers can either assign existing drivers to their account or invite new drivers. If a user is already on the Carrier account, users with Manage Users scope (eg an Owner/Operator) can add the Driver scope to the required user via the Users tab.
